Edinburgh Napier University
Edinburgh Napier University recruits postgraduate students from around 100 countries. It’s an important revenue source for the university and a competitive marketplace. The quality of marketing materials can be make-or-break as far as potential students are concerned.
I was therefore flattered to receive a commission to write much of its postgraduate prospectus for 2015-2016. At the time I was myself an MSc student at ENU, so I had useful insights into the thinking of the target audiences.
In general, I only take on writing projects if I feel I can connect with the audience. With education, the connection is three-way. I’m an alumnus of three universities (Cambridge, the Open University and most recently ENU, and I’d probably do a few degrees if I won the lottery). I’m a consultant for several Scottish universities. And I’m the parent of a current undergraduate and a current UCAS applicant.
As a result, I can look at university comms from multiple perspectives and connect with different audiences. I love working with higher education clients and would gladly do more for them.
